Worst case scenario, I'd hate to be the one that has to tell my boss that I didn't care and now have to pull the cable out and redo that work to meet code.

Similarly, the code says that a typical, lay-in acoustical tile ceiling with ducted HVAC can be considered as limiting the transfer of smoke.
